Soccer Mom Cars Transformed into Fortresses on Wheels Video
Across Mexico families are living in fear of deadly drug-related violence. Almost 90 percent of those attacks happen while the victims are traveling in their vehicle. So many are turning to a San Antonio company that transforms cars.
Originally they look like "soccer-mom" cars, but then they are stipped down and fitted with steel-plated armor and two inch glass windows that can withstand an AK 47 assault. The Texas Armoring Corporation turns vehicles into fortresses.
For $80,000, plus the cost of the vehicle, an owner will get real protection, including radiator protection against bullets, so the car can keep moving.
When all is said and done, you can't tell the car is carrying 1500 pounds of armor. Some of the vehicles have James Bond features. With a push of a button one car will release a smoke screen, and the car following can not see anything. Another button releases road tacks to puncture tires. If an attacker makes it to the car, electrified door handles give a non-lethal jolt.
The company has been in business since the 70s, but now they are moving to a bigger warehouse to meet the demand driven by escalating violence in Mexico.
